Teairra Mari was back on the scene, shooting the video for “U Did That” with 2 Chainz in downtown Los Angeles. The Rico Love-produced song serves as the lead single from her Division1 debut, due this summer. Rap-Up TV visited the petite diva on set as she channeled “old school Mary J. or Jenny from the Block” with her fur-clad look.
“The video is gonna be very sexy, lofty feeling,” explained Teairra. “I’m just serving gritty, but glam and grit.”
Much-buzzed-about MC 2 Chainz rolled through to make a cameo. “I thought she was a cutie pie,” said the Def Jam signee. “It’s a good look for both of us, coming from where I come from, me being a more street label artist and her campaign crossing up, so it should really look good on film.”
Teairra has been working closely with label boss Rico Love on her sophomore album and hopes to collaborate with fellow Detroit artist Big Sean. “It’s reminiscent of a new jack swing, like ’90s R&B, bedroom music but with a bounce,” she said.
2 Chainz jumps on the remix to Teairra Mari’s first single “U Did Dat,” written and produced by Rico and D-Town. The singer is readying her sophomore album for release on Rico Love’s Division1 label.
Teairra Mari takes us into the studio as she begins recording her sophomore album with Rico Love. The R&B singer, who is signed to Love’s Division1 label, laid down vocals for the first single “U Did Dat” with Love and producer D-Town.
“It’s absolutely amazing the chemistry that Rico and I share. I couldn’t ask for another partner in crime,” explained the “Love & Hip-Hop” star.
“There are a lot of talented songwriters out there, but for me, my chemistry is with Rico and I haven’t had a chemistry like this with anybody else. Everybody has their match and I think Rico is definitely my musical match.”
Teairra explores her womanhood on the new album. “The direction has gotta be sexy,” she said. “I’m a woman comfortable in my shoes and I like to be in love, and when I’m in love, I like to have sex, lots and lots of it.”
After releasing several mixtapes and viral videos, Teairra Mari makes her official return with “U Did Dat,” the lead single from her as-yet-untitled sophomore album. The R&B siren exited Warner Bros. Records earlier this year and signed to Rico Love’s Division1 label.
“Ever since I went there with you/ Never been so turned out and turned on/ I’m so glad he’s gone ’cause you’re the one I want,” a smitten Teairra coos over the seductive midtempo, written and produced by Rico and D-Town.
“I believe in her. She’s a superstar,” Rico told Rap-Up.com. “If somebody is a star and they have that ‘it’ thing that cannot be taught, all you have to do is put a record with it. I believe that she’s gonna have a successful career. I believe that she has that potential.”
Teairra Mari spreads her wings in the sultry video for “That’s All Me,” the Puff Daddy & The Family-sampled single off Division1/BMajor DJ T. Neal’s forthcoming album Not Your Average DJ. The R&B vixen models a variety of eye-popping looks in the black-and-white clip, including a sexy angel, bondage girl, and designer-clad diva holding her pup Cherrie Cola. Rico Love, who recently signed Teairra to his Division1 label, appears alongside her to spit a verse. Turn the lights on.
Following her DUI arrest last week, Teairra Mari is getting her life back in order. The 23-year-old singer attended Sunday services at Oasis Church in Los Angeles, her first public outing since being charged with drunk driving in Beverly Hills. She released a statement over the weekend owning up to her mistake and apologizing to those she disappointed.
Rico Love, who signed Teairra to his Division1 label, spoke exclusively with Rap-Up.com about the incident. “I don’t condone drinking and driving. I don’t support it,” said the hitmaker. “I think it was a foolish decision on her part, but at the end of the day we all make mistakes. I had that big brother talk with her and I’m gonna continue to have that with her. But I love her and I still believe in her talent, so we just gonna keep it movin’ and give her our full support. But I do not condone that type of activity at all whatsoever.”
So far Rico and Teairra have recorded five songs together for her Division1 debut and he plans to drop her first single at the top of 2012. “She’s a superstar. If somebody is a star and they have that ‘it’ thing that cannot be taught, all you have to do is put a record with it,” he explained.
Teairra Mari is taking responsibility for her actions. The 23-year-old singer was arrested on Friday for driving under the influence after crashing her vehicle in Beverly Hills. In a statement released today, an embarrassed Mari admits to driving drunk and apologizes to those who were disappointed in her.
She was reportedly charged with DUI and assault of a police officer, the latter of which she denies. “I take full responsibility for my actions, but I absolutely did NOT ‘attack’ a Beverly Hills police officer and I’m very confused by those allegations,” she states.
The Division1 signee hopes the incident will serve as an example to those who drink and get behind the wheel. “I hope that this situation can save someone from making the dumb decision to drink and drive!” she adds.
