Brandy Attends NARM Music Biz Awards

Brandy

Brandy was cute in curls at the NARM Music Biz Awards dinner party at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza in Century City, Calif. last night. The “Put It Down” singer was all smiles in a short black dress and platform heels while walking the red carpet at the annual music conference, which honored Katy Perry and Lionel Richie.

Brandy’s RCA/Chameleon Records debut Two Eleven is due this summer. “‘Put It Down’ is a good segway to what the album is about,” hitmaker Sean Garrett recently told Rap-Up TV. “The album’s definitely not predictable. At the same time, it’s progressive. It’s made to excite people. It’s about keeping people intrigued. It’s about entertainment.”

One of the featured tracks is a drum-heavy Bangladesh production called “Sick.” “I feel like a lot of women are gonna love that record,” said Garrett.

Rap-Up TV: Sean Garrett Reveals ‘Sick’ Song on Brandy’s Album

Brandy embarked on the next chapter of her career last week with her hot new single “Put It Down” featuring Chris Brown. One of the hitmakers responsible for her new sound is Sean Garrett, who produced the track with Bangladesh. Rap-Up TV caught up with Sean to discuss Brandy’s comeback and her upcoming album Two Eleven, for which he helmed nine tracks.

“When I got the call to work with her, I felt like, ‘Wow, this would be an opportunity for me to sort of work with one of my dream artists,’” said Sean, who explained how the Chris collaboration came about.

“People probably thought there would be a rapper on there and we wanted to surprise people,” he said. “[Chris] tweeted and said that Brandy’s the most phenomenal vocalist of all time, so what more can you say? He gave it up to her and he’s not easily impressed.”

Brandy’s RCA/Chameleon Records debut is due this summer. “‘Put It Down’ is a good segway to what the album is about,” he explained. “The album’s definitely not predictable. At the same time, it’s progressive. It’s made to excite people. It’s about keeping people intrigued. It’s about entertainment.

“Brandy always made people feel a certain type of way with her music. And so we wanted to keep that integrity, but we wanted to also make the new fans respect who she is because she’s an icon, she’s a living legend.”

Plus, he revealed a drum-heavy track he did with Bangladesh called “Sick.” “I feel like a lot of women are gonna love that record,” he teased.

Monica Reveals ‘It All Belongs to Me’ Was Originally for R. Kelly

Monica and Brandy reunited for the first time in 14 years on “It All Belongs to Me,” and they have R. Kelly to thank. Before the Rico Love-produced duet found its way into their hands and onto Monica’s album New Life, it originally belonged to the Pied Piper.

“At the time, the record belonged to R. Kelly and I thank Robert from the bottom of my heart because I had to really go to him and ask him, ‘Can I take this song?’” Monica exclusively tells Rap-Up TV. “And he gave it to me. He said, ‘I’ll let you take it.’”

The R&B songstress has always wanted to work with Kellz, whose inspirational song “I Wish” helped her get through a difficult time in her life. “R. Kelly is one of the greatest that ever did it, especially when it comes to lyrics and knowing how to make a song that makes sense to the everyday person because I’m just like them.”

Monica’s label RCA had the idea of putting Brandy on the record and turning it into a empowering anthem for women.
